If you run an auto shop in Ontario, you’re probably wondering how to stand out from the crowd online. Fair enough! It’s a crazy internet out there these days.
As a professional business blogger in Ontario, I’m biased – but I reckon blogging is one of the most cost-effective strategies you have available.
That’s why I put together this guide to explain how a professional business blog benefits your shop. It’s something you might even be able to do yourself. You don’t have to work with me at all! But if you want to? Well, here I am.
What is a business blog for an Ontario mechanic?
Okay, here’s the short version. A business blog is a section of your website. It contains written posts or articles, just like any other ‘blog’ website.
Now, what makes this a business blog is that its goal is to convert leads into paying customers. (In contrast, standalone blogs are usually more about generating revenue through e-commerce or ads.)
Obviously, it’s also attached to your Ontario business’s website, so that makes it a business blog by default anyway.
Writing a business blog brings two main benefits: increased SEO rankings (so people are more likely to click on your website) and a platform to display your expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (so once they click on it, they read something that adds value).
And to cap it all off, it’s something you could try yourself. As a result, your mechanic business blogging could actually be completely free.
(I recommend working with a professional blogger in Ontario, but hey! Why not have a go?)
What should Ontario mechanics blog about?
So then, what should you blog about to highlight your Ontario auto shop’s expertise?
There are a few go-to options for mechanics. I’ve written about many of these subjects before, and I’m sure I’ll continue to do so in the future. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
- ‘Benefits of’ blogging. This blog is a prime example of that. You want to tell people why having their car serviced or repaired is a good idea. But more than that, tell them why a service or repair at your shop is better than your competitors. Don’t show off or put anyone else down – just present yourself in the best possible light.
- Understanding industry terms like GTI, HEMI, turbocharger, or tyre tread patterns. Here, the goal is more to educate and present yourself as a trusted business to which your locals turn for advice.
- Explaining how things work. Cars, trucks, motorbikes, and other vehicles are pretty complex pieces of engineering. Most people don’t have a clue how the engine works, never mind the spark plugs, oxygen sensors, or EGR valves. Walking a reader through with very simple language again presents you as a trustworthy guide and may generate future business.
- Common problems and fixes (be cautious with liability – I suggest inviting the customer into your shop for all but the most routine repairs, such as topping off washer fluid or inflating tires).
These ideas aside, I think the best blogs actually come from your customers. They’ll ask your mechanics questions all the time, every day. Take note of those questions and save them for blog posts. After all, those blogs can answer your literal customers’ literal questions. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Why should I hire a professional blogger for my Ontario auto shop?
Blogging is a great choice for enhancing your business’s reputation on a realistic budget, especially in today’s cost-of-living crisis in Ontario. However, sometimes blogging can be more challenging than it initially appears.
It’s imperative to get the tone of voice right. You have to sound like you, expressing your business’s values and selling points in such a way as your reader – and hopefully, future customer – understands. And that’s easier said than done.
That’s where someone like me comes in. I’m Ben, and I’ve been writing blogs for businesses for well over five years. Full-time. I know how to write for your audience, and I know how to drive traffic to your website.
Plus, I actually have my Level 2 light vehicle technician from the IMI, so I’m qualified to work on cars, and did so for a time!
I offer competitive rates for local Ontario mechanics who need blogging services. After getting in touch, I’ll drive out your way to meet you face-to-face, if at all practical, so I can better understand how to structure and write your blogs.
Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you might have via the Contact form! Otherwise, I look forward to meeting you, and wish you all the best with your blog!
