Hiring a writer (such as myself) is an extra cost to you and your business that you might not want.
It can be absolutely worth it, though.
In this article, I’ll explain the benefits of hiring a writer to fill out content on your website instead of doing it yourself.
The upfront cost of a writer
Hiring a writer is usually an upfront cost, but the potential benefits remain forever. Some are also happy to work on a hybrid PPC (Pay Per Click) basis, meaning you have a lower upfront cost and only pay when the page starts making money.
Both options are viable, and, depending on your budget, you may like to start out small with PPC contracts before switching to more expensive upfront-cost jobs.
You’ll generally pay more for quality when hiring people to write content on your website. I’m a big believer in higher quality content representing a greater returning customer flow and more trust and respect for you and your website.
There are many low-cost writers out there on freelance websites that offer extremely low rates. These writers tend to not be native English speakers, and usually, you can tell when you read. (Of course, that won’t be the case 100% of the time – I have several contacts from other parts of the world that can arguably speak better English than I can!).
Artificial intelligence – producing articles for $2 a pop – is also, unfortunately, plaguing the industry. It has some significant benefits, particularly for generic website copy, but it can’t replace a writer’s intuition, expression and emotion.
In general, though, budget costs = budget writing. For some people, that’s what they’re after, and that’s fine.
There are only so many hours in a day
When running your website, there’s only so much you can do. As your website grows, you’ll start having to off-source things to others.
Hiring a writer means you can focus on other parts of your website. Of course, if your website is all about writing, you may like to continue doing most of the work yourself. You might also want to hire a writer such as myself to post more content alongside your own.
These kinds of work can be either written as a guest contributor or ghost-written, whichever suits your preferences. I will also attempt to match your writing style as closely as possible in ghost-writing situations, but this is impossible to do entirely accurately. There’s always something about an individual’s writing that sets them apart. It’s fascinating, really.
Having a good relationship with a hired writer
In these situations, you might be tempted to hire a wide range of authors, each contributing a small amount.
I believe, though, that it’s more beneficial to hire a small group of specialists that can focus on you in greater detail. That’s more likely to lead to success.
This is where I can help. By creating a good working relationship with a writer, you can work through highs and lows together.
I’m well aware that, for most people, the road is rarely free from bumps, and I’m happy to work with and help you through those times. I’d also be glad to work alongside other writers you may have hired/will hire in the future.
How the cost of a writer pays off
When writing content for a website or magazine (my main points of work), the upfront cost for my services should pay off over time from driving traffic to your website.
It’s a risk and reward thing, and there’s no such thing as a guarantee. However, I do believe that hard work and commitment give you the best chance of making it. Quality content can make or break a business.
As a native English speaker (and writer… and reader…), I offer high-quality, well-researched articles. Although I specialise in the automotive and engineering fields, I’m happy to tackle anything you might like me to.
